The Snow has arrived in Summit County, Colorado. A-Basin opened two days ago and received 22″ of snow and Loveland opened the day before. Copper Mountain and Keystone are slated to open on November 5, Breckenridge is scheduled to open November 12, and Vail is scheduled to open November 19, 2010. According to the Farmer’s Almanac it is going to be a great year for Snow sports in the high country!

The Woodward Camp at Copper Mountain is scheduled to open in the early part of 2009.  You may be wondering what is the Woodward Camp.  It is a huge indoor arena for athletes to practice Action Sports, snowboarding, skateboarding, gymnastics, with supervision. It is a  year round ski and snowboard program offering winter day camps and week-long summer camps.

This is going to be a great facility for training or for someone who just wants to get better at their sport.  There are 3 other camps in the United States, one in California, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

The new gondola is scheduled to open on November 7, just around the corner. This gondola runs from the River Run base area and it is supposed to double the uphill capacity, which is quite impressive, since it seemed to get people up the mountain rather quickly before.

Some of the future plans for Keystone are adding a new lift from the Ski Tip area up to the east side of the mountain. There are currently cat-skiing operations in the Bergmann and Independence Bowls and this is going to be replaced with some new lifts. I’m not sure if that is a good thing, for the powder adventurist.

The Wayback chair is scheduled to be replaced and new trails are going to be formed on the front side, North Peak and the Outback.

Keystone is a great family friendly mountain as well as some extreme skiing in the outback areas. It is scheduled to open on November 7, weather permitting. Even though the calendar says April, in Summit County it is more like the middle of winter.

Skiing and riding are still fantastic, I skied in a foot of powder on Monday.  April is a great time to come out to Summit County.  The restaurants are having specials, ski areas have discounted lift tickets if you buy on-line.  You can also get reduced lodging specials.

It is snowing again today. This weekend there is a great  fun race fundraiser at A-Basin.  Registration is at 7:AM and there will be great prizes for everyone.  It is supposed to be a warm weekend.
